Overview
RelX Application Builder™ (RelX
AB™) is a rapid application development tool for developing graphic user interface
applications, which was especially designed for developing client-server applications.
RelX AB™ provides users with an integrated
development environment, which includes: project management tools, a means to create
and customize visual components, a source code editor, application compiling/execution/debugging
facilities and a variety of helpful wizards.
RelX AB™ utilizes an object-oriented
component approach to building applications. Applications can be created using the
existing set of components or you can extend the available applications by developing
new components or by using external components. In addition, to facilitate the development
process, a set of wizards can be used to create combinations of interconnect components.
RelX AB™ provides cross application
development and deployment by being fully portable to Windows and Linux platforms.
RelX AB uses an object-oriented component approach to application development. Additional
development features includes the use of Visual Container Components to automatically
control the placement of child components in their client areas and Visual Component
Alignment to keep an applications components positioned consistently as its parent
is resized.
An Event Subscription Model feature allows an unlimited number of application components
to be subscribed to a component event. This allows any number of events to be handled
directly by the component eliminating the need to re-call methods from the only event
handler.
RelX AB™ provides a RAD integrated
development environment (IDE) for developers. The two-way visual development tools
allow you to generate full application source code independent of the IDE. In addition,
an editor is available to directly edit the source code. This means that all of the
application's source code is open and there are no binary files to hide the application
definitions from you.
An Integrated Complier/Debugger allows the Source Code Editor and the Complier and
Debugger to be fully integrated with the IDE. This allows you to examine and exception
or stop and executed application in the debugger to find if an application is getting
caught in a loop and to be able to determine why.
A simple database access scheme is used that allows each visual data input control
to be configured into a database data control merely by defining two properties. Other
database application development tools allow you to work directly with bi-directional
cursors. The database access components can retrieve data from the DBMS cursor without
having to load all the rows into memory; this allows millions of rows to be displayed
without significant delays.
RelX AB™ uses ATOLL, a proprietary
language that combines the strengths of a modern object-oriented language and complied
byte-code portability while using modest computer resources.
RelX AB™ report generating tools
allow you to simplify the creation of tables with through lines and eliminated the
need to dock lines from different print areas.
RelX AB™ installation package wizard
creates ready-to-install applications packages that are ready to be deployed to an
end user, making the application extremely easy to launch.
